Why CIS with Ms. Cooper was my favorite class

Because of:
1. Miss warm smile
2. the care that she displayed
3. the way technology was integrated in our class
4. Miss real life stories and examples that miss gave to let us better understand the topics
5. Miss ease to simplify topics with a few words.

All in All it was enjoyable, informative, and fun which are the factors that made it stand out from my other classes.
I chose the right class.

The best five cellphones on the market.......

Apple iPhone 4 (Verizon Wireless)

The Verizon iPhone 4 has much in common with its AT&T counterpart, but varying features and different performance give it enough room to stand apart. It won't vastly change your iPhone experience, but we welcome the consumer choice that it brings.

How to be a better person

1. Decide what it is that you consider a 'good' person to be. You can do this by observing people you love or respect. Realizing their best qualities and admirable traits and implementing this upon your own personality.

  • 2Befriend people who you consider a good influence, but don't expect them to be saints. They may make mistakes because they don't realize they have the virtues you see in them. Never give up.

  • 3
Take a course on becoming a Life Coach. Check out websites and organizations like Certified Coaches Federation. Helping others, as you'll see, will increase your own self worth and esteem.

  • 4
Make changes slowly. Try one new behavior at a time. You cannot become a better person overnight. It is a process. You should change your habits and your mind will follow. A habit forms and breaks with one month.

  • 5
Remember, that life goals can change, and whom you are can change as well. Never fail to re-evaluate and rediscover yourself!

  • 6
Do not be selfish If there is someone that works or lives near you that seems devoid of a friend, reach out and help them. It is incredible the difference one person can make if they become someone's friend. Give personal time, give advice or catch a movie!

  • 7
Read. Spend a good amount of your time reading about something beneficial towards your intelligence and keep updated about society. People admire smart peers, and being well-educated means that you will be able to stick up for what you believe in by using fact! A good debate always challenges human intelligence and builds pride.

  • 8
Live life to the fullest! Try out for that school sport. Volunteer at the soup kitchen. Write in your journal/diary. Join the annual bake sale, or take your sibling to the carnival. Fill your life to the brim with rewarding activities and enjoy the blessings that come of them.

  • 9
Boost your intelligence. The ability to perform mental tasks with ease is invaluable; taking simple steps in your daily life will help you to cultivate your brain power. Practice your cognitive mind by exercising your thinking patterns. Which means challenge your mind in a way that expands thinking beyond what this universe can even offer!

  • 10
Finish college. If you haven't gone yet, make a plan to do so. There are so many opportunities that you are missing out on if you refrain from getting a formal education. Job opportunities will be opened up, you will gain respect from colleagues, along with the bonus asset that you become more intelligent. It is never too late to go to school. Stop making excuses! There are many grants available, and schedules can be flexible.

  • 11
Spend time with your family. It is truly a learning experience to all of you. Spending quality time away from the T.V. can help you delve into the minds and hearts of your loved ones, allowing you to help them with any problems they may be experiencing and getting to genuinely know them. Studies have shown that children that eat dinner as a family are less likely to do drugs, alcohol, or be depressed. Just fifteen minutes a day with family can deeply help everyone involved.

  • 12
Think before you speak A good listener tends to be a good person, and trust from others will follow. When you have the power of someones trust, do not take it for granted. Use this trust, to help people better themselves.

  • 13
Stay active. Being healthy and fit allows you to perform more tasks with ease and precision. Just thirty minutes of activity a day can help you lead a healthier, longer, more fruitful life. So what are you waiting for? You'd be amazed at how much body and mind are connected.

  • 14
Grow towards love everyday- We all have to live in this world together for at least a small amount of time and we are all here on purpose to learn the lessons of our actions. The way we can love is by being receptive, unselfish, respectful, sacrificial, willing, thoughtful, having patience and being thankful. There is wisdom in all things, and all are capable of tapping the experience of pure natural and whole being. THIS LIFE IS FOR LOVE. This simple truth which begins with gratitude, forgiveness and loving awareness is for us to see our imperfections and our potential perfection. None of us are perfect. If something seems too perfect, there is something wrong! Life also consists of balance
  • How to get rich

      • 1Decide what 'rich' means to you. Does it mean money for everything you need? Money for everything you want? Enough to retire where you live now? Enough to retire and live in Costa Rica?
      • 2Start saving. Most experts agree that investing 10 to 15 percent of your gross monthly income creates a very comfortable nest egg for later years.
      • 3Take advantage of compound interest, earning interest on your interest by letting investment returns accumulate and build on themselves.
      • 4Resist temptation, whether that means a brand-new car right out of college or weekly dinners at nice restaurants. Invest the money you save by buying a used car or going out only twice a month, and you will have thousands of dollars more at retirement.
      • 5Take care of yourself. This will reduce medical costs later on in life, as well as extend the years you can work and save.
      • 6Go to college. By one study, college graduates earn roughly $20,000 more per year than people with just a high school diploma, and a post-graduate degree nets $20,000 more than a bachelor's.
      • 7Get married. Married people are generally healthier than singles. Plus, they can economize on expenses, and they have more to invest. And because married people live longer, they can work and save longer.
      • 8Enjoy the ride. Don't be so concerned with amassing a fortune later on that you neglect to enjoy life now. Strive for balance.

    Why people fail Exams

Some of us fail college not only because of incompetence, but also due to the following reasons:
    1. Having to work. Many students are in a difficult position where they must work while in school. This is highly respectable but could lead to you having less time to focus on your studies, and possibly failing in the end.
    2. Too much partying. There is nothing wrong with having a few beers after an exam but having a few beers on a Monday morning could be a serious problem.
    3. Not prepared. Many teenagers are simply not ready for the rigorous schedule that comes along with some higher level programs.
    4. Family problems. Family support is very beneficial while in school, but on the other hand issues at home often lead to stress and loss of focus.
    5. Too demanding. Some programs require many hours on lectures and studying for exams. If you are not willing to commit to the time requirements then you will not be able to keep up with your fellow students.
    6. Wrong course. Sometimes when you find yourself not interested with your studies then you are in the wrong program. There are many programs to choose from, so do not feel bad if one particular program is not working out for you.

    Who is God?

Who Is God - Who Does He Claim to Be?
Who is God? He's been described as everything from an impersonal life-force to a benevolent, personal, almighty Creator. He has been called by many names, including: "Zeus," "Jupiter," "Brahma," "Allah," "Ra," "Odin," "Ashur," "Izanagi," "Viracocha," "Ahura Mazda," and "the Great Spirit" to name just a few. He's seen by some as "Mother Nature" and by others as "Father God." But who is He really? Who does He claim to be?

Who Is God - Father God or Mother Nature?
Who is God? What has He revealed about Himself? To begin with, whenever He refers to Himself in parental terms, He always addresses Himself as "Father," never "Mother." He calls Himself "a Father to Israel,"1 and in one instance, when His "children" were particularly disrespectful to Him, He said to them, "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am the Father, where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is My reverence?" 2

His prophets acknowledged Him as Father by saying, "You are our Father, we are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand,"3 and "do we not all have one Father? Has not one God created us?"4 Never once does God refer to Himself as "Mother" and never once is He called such by the prophets to whom He spoke. Calling God "Mother Nature" is comparable to calling your earthly father "Mom."
Who Is God - What Does God Care About?
Who is God in terms of moral attributes? What does God have to say about Himself in this regard? He says that He delights in justice and righteousness: "…Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight."5 "For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity…"6

Justice and equity are very important to God. But so are grace and mercy. And so, while God will hold everyone accountable, each for their own lives, He extends His grace to the repentant sinner. He promises that, "'If the wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed and observes all My statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall surely live; he shall not die. All his transgressions which he has committed will not be remembered against him; because of his righteousness which he has practiced, he will live. Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked,' declares the Lord GOD, 'rather than that he should turn from his ways and live?…I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,' declares the Lord GOD. 'Therefore, repent and live.'"7

By "death" God is not referring to the physical death which we might have in mind. Rather, God is referring to something which will happen in eternity, after our physical deaths. The Scriptures refer to this event as the "second death."8 The first death separates us from our bodies and takes us from this world. The second death is different. It also entails a separation, but it's the separation of one group of people from another: the righteous and the forgiven on one hand and the wicked and the unrepentant on the other. The two groups will be judged separately.

The one group will be rewarded according to the good that they've done. Their evil deeds will be overlooked, forgiven by God. The other group will be judged according to the evil that they have done, and their good deeds will not keep them from their punishment. God says, "When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and dies because of it, for his iniquity which he has committed he will die." But "when a wicked man turns away from his wickedness which he has committed and practices justice and righteousness, he will save his life. Because he considered and turned away from all his transgressions which he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. …Therefore, repent and live."9 In this way, God will see that justice ultimately prevails, but that mercy is given to the humble and the repentant.

God has made a provision for those who want to repent, a provision to atone for the sins of those who want to be made right with Him. He sent a "Messiah," a Servant who willingly suffered and died a vicarious death in order to pay for the sins of those who would repent and trust in Him. The Scriptures say, "Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?…Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows…He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.…it was the LORD's will to crush Him and cause Him to suffer, and though the LORD makes His life a guilt offering, He will see His offspring and prolong His days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in His hand. After the suffering of His soul, He will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.…he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." 10

    How to live longer

Avoid Carcinogens. Carcinogens cause cancer, which can kill you.
Quit smoking. Any form of smoke is bad for you, no matter how little you take in. The majority of the medical community states that smoking is very hazardous to your health and can often result in premature death.

    • Wear sunblock. Even if you are dark skinned and have no history of skin cancer in your family, the increasing number of UVA and UVB rays hitting the Earth from the sun pose a threat to anyone and everyone who spends more than 15 minutes a day out of the house or office. However, remember to also spend some time in the sun. Vitamin D is very important to your health. Just remember to apply sunblock and not to spend too much time in harsh, direct sunlight.
  • 2
    Change your patterns of consumption.
    • Drink plenty of water. The universal solvent is a most effective weapon against toxins and many other violators. It flushes out your system like nothing else does.
    • Avoid simple carbohydrates. Carbohydrates cause your insulin levels to rise, which has been associated with increased incidence of breast cancer in menopausal women.
    • Avoid overindulging. Too much of anything can cause harm, whether it be food, drink, drugs, or even medicine -- even Tylenol can be fatal if ingested in great enough quantity. Non-prescription and illegal drugs may contain chemicals and/or other drugs that are unfit for human consumption, but keep in mind that alcohol and tobacco are among the worst drugs. Do not forget that caffeine is also a drug. Any drug, from alcohol to aspirin, carries with it a risk of shortening and ending your life. If you do decide to use any drugs, be responsible -- do your research, make sure you understand their properties and side effects, and use them appropriately. The same applies to food -- read nutrition labels and do some research to understand what the information means to your health. With anything you ingest, moderation is key.
    • Consider a calorie-restriction or intermittent fasting diet.
    • Balance your Omega-3:Omega-6 ratio. There is mounting evidence that a diet high in omega-6 fatty acids (fats) increases your chance of cardiovascular disease and cancer. To improve your ratio, reduce your intake of omega-6 fats (particularly bad are corn and canola oil, as well as many nut oils), while increasing your intake of omega-3 fats from foods including fatty fish, especially salmon.

  • 3
    Consider squatting to defecate.
, as it may greatly reduce your chance of getting colorectal cancer (potential fatal) or hemorrhoids (which are mostly just unpleasant)

  • 4
Consume antioxidants. They decrease the chance of developing cancer.
    • Drink lots of tea. There are two main types of tea - green and black. Both are from the the same tree, however green tea is less processed than black tea. Green tea has many health benefits, including reportedly reducing the chance of heart attack and cancer. Other benefits include increased energy and metabolic rate (good for weight loss), and high antioxidant content (slows down aging). Black tea has these benefits also but at a reduced level. Try and drink 5 cups of green tea a day. Using more tea bags or leaves is a better way to make strong tea than brewing longer. Note that green tea typically contains caffeine, which may have a negative effect on your health and lifespan.
    • Eat dark chocolate. One piece of dark chocolate a day can benefit the heart as cocoa solids have a beneficial effect of the heart and arteries. Dark chocolate has more antioxidants than other kinds of chocolate. Look for 60% unprocessed cocoa or more. Chocolate also makes you happy (in case you did not know) because it releases endorphins. Chocolate that has been alkalized or dutched loses most of it's anti-oxidant capacity.
    • Drink one glass of red wine a day. Red wine contains substances called polyphenols which maintain the elasticity of the artery walls and also act as antioxidants - thus helping maintain a healthy heart and slowing down aging. Anecdotally, the oldest woman in the world, Jeanne Calment, drank one glass of wine a day, and she lived until she was age 122. If you would rather not drink wine everyday, consider eating red grapes instead.
    • Make sure you get your 5 a Day! Fruit and Vegetables are extremely good for you
  • Blogging for fun Vs. Blogging for money

Do you blog for fun or for money?  When asked this question a lot of people are lost and often don’t know what to answer.  I think many people try to blog for fun and money which is pretty difficult and here is why…
If you just want to blog for fun, then you don’t need to have a care in the world, just write up your random thoughts post them, and who cares what everyone thinks.  In fact if you were to write something contravertial it can be funny seeing all your visitors taking it very seriously and leaving you hate comments ;) it’s called internet trash talking, everyone feals undefeatable behind their tiny computer screen, beleive me I’ve gotten such comments and email and it’s hilarious how seriously some people take things
Now if you are blogging for money then you need to focus on your income revenues.  If you are doing advertising then you need to focus and learn more about keyword optimization and focus on writing about profitable niches, ones that dvertisers pay a lot of money for.  One example is weight loss.  Another way to monetize a blog is to create a product.  In this case your blog needs to center a specific problem, frusteration, need or want that people have.  You blog about it, get feedback, learn what people are looking for and write an ebook on that topic..

    Why blogging is fun

Blogging has become a common activity for internet users. It allows them to share their thoughts, ideas, views and information about different issues in a personal and engaging manner. Blogging can be done for various purposes and on a variety of topics. Some people do it to earn money, while others do it to shape opinions. It is a new and interactive way of expressing yourself.
For most people, blogging is also fun. It helps them stay connected with the world and get feedback from people on the net. While doing so, some bloggers have gone to become leading opinion shapers on the internet. But to become a successful blogger, you need to put in time and efforts. In the end, it will be a fun-filled activity that you would want to continue forever.
    But why blogging is fun?
Quite simply, blogging is a perfect way to keep you updated about a lot of things such as interesting facts about countries, latest news, reviews and thoughts. Your sense of discovery and curiosity will be satisfied, which will keep you motivated to continue blogging on topics you know or wanted everyone to know about.
Blogging also help you broaden your horizons by allowing you to look at things from different perspectives. While blogging, you express your thoughts and emotions through words, which opens you mind to everything you see. You do not confine yourself to a single idea, but rather explore varied opinions that help you grow as a person. Isn’t this exciting enough?
When you constantly write blogs, your imagination, creativity, and writing skills increase during the process. You can use words, thoughts and images to express your idea through blogging, unlike any other writing medium. Further, you can write on different topics for a variety of audience, without compromising your ideas.
Yet, the most interesting and fun aspect of blogging is that it permits you to make new friends and relationships on the internet all over the world. Blogs allow users to comment on your posts and content. This gives you instant reactions from people on the internet about what they feel about your blog. You also learn new things from your readers who share their experiences about the topic you write on. With such prospects, the opportunities to engage in meaningful dialogue with the world community and collaborations are endless.
Not many people realize this, but through blogging you can also result in positive social change in a society. Your ideas can really inspire others to do something about the issues that surround us all. You can blog about political issues and raise awareness on inaction being shown by politicians over certain crisis. You can write on education and help students worldwide gain some relevant knowledge about their subject. You can even blog about latest developments and engage people in a meaningful dialogue.

With blogging, there are limitless possibilities to have fun, share ideas, and create positive impact in the society. So what are you waiting for, start blogging today and enjoy the opportunities it provides.

    Facebook!

Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. As of January 2011, Facebook has more than 600 million active users. Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics. The name of the service stems from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the start of the academic year by university administrations in the United States to help students get to know each other better. Facebook allows anyone who declares themselves to be at least 13 years old to become a registered user of the website.
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. It gradually added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school students, and, finally, to anyone aged 13 and over, but based on ConsumersReports.org on May 2011, there are 7.5 million children were under 13 and violated the site's terms.
A January 2009 Compete.com study ranked Facebook as the most used social networking service by worldwide monthly active users, followed by MySpace. Entertainment Weekly included the site on its end-of-the-decade "best-of" list, saying, "How on earth did we stalk our exes, remember our co-workers' birthdays, bug our friends, and play a rousing game of Scrabulous before Facebook?" Quantcast estimates Facebook has 135.1 million monthly unique U.S. visitors in October 2010. According to Social Media Today, in April 2010 an estimated 41.6% of the U.S. population had a Facebook account.

How to do good on exams

    1. Clarify the topics with the instructor

One of the first things you need to do when studying for an exam is to clarify with the professor the topics that will be covered in the exam. This is a natural question that most students do, but surprisingly few professors are clear about contents of exams. This is an important step because it clarifies what you are supposed to study for an exam.
Remember that one of the number one time wasters in school is to spend time studying topics that will not be in an exam. Even if the topic is very interesting personally, it might not help you to get a good grade, so it should be better postpone to some time later when you have your work done.
    2. Create a summary of study
A summary of study is a guide to which you can refer to when studying a topic. It say what is the sequence of topics you need to study, and how much progress you have made. Students get quickly lost in school because they don't have a plan of learning activities. It is simply too easy to spend a few hours doing some homework, for example, and then discovering that you didn't study even ten percent of the topics for an exam.
You can start from the topics given by the professor, from your book, or from a separate study guide. However, you must do your separate summary of study because only you know about your current situation. For example, annotate what you think is not well understood, or topics that you need to practice more. Be thorough and write down everything you need to read and/or practice.
    3. Create a study schedule
Another problem that many students have is that they don't know how to divide their time in a proper way. This way they spend way too much time on just a small part of the topics in an exam.
The best way to do this is to divide your study in sessions, and then create different tasks that can be accomplished individually. These study tasks should cover the whole material that you are trying to master.
Each day do some of the tasks in your schedule and check them off. Be realistic but spend time on your tasks. You will see that it becomes much easier to track your progress. This also helps to avoid the problem of trying to do everything in the previous day. If you have an idea of how much time it takes to do a task, you have a better chance to accomplish it on time.

    4. Study with a friend

Studying alone can be boring at times. Try to avoid this situation with the help of a collage. Studying in group can help you for several reasons:
    • Different people know different things, so in combination you have a better chance of learning everything.
    • In a group it is easier to maintain the concentration on a topic.
    • Explaining to another person what you think of a topic is an excellent way of mastering the material.
    5. Use flash cards
Depending on the topic that you are trying to learn, flash cards can be an excellent technique of study. They can be useful not only for language learning, but also for more complex topics.
For examples, flash cards can be useful in topics such as History, Geography, Biology, and Sciences in general. Even in math is sometimes useful to learn the basic formulas and concepts with flash cards.
Maintain always a deck of blank cards that you can fill with information for your exam. They are really easy to manipulate and can help you in the process of recollection necessary to master a school topic.

    Why Painball is so fun

Paintball is a sport in which participants eliminate opponents from play by hitting them with paintballs (spherical gelatin capsules containing primarily polyethylene glycol, other non-toxic and water-soluble substances, and dye) shot from a compressed-gas-powered "marker".
Paintball draws a wide array of players, and the Sporting Goods Manufacturer's Association estimates that over 10 million people play annually in the United States alone.
Statistics show that paintball is one of the safest sports, even more so than tennis
A game of paintball usually involves two opposing teams seeking to eliminate all of the other team's players or to complete an objective, such as retrieving a flag, eliminating a specific player, or other paintball variations. An average, non-professional game of paintball usually lasts around five minutes to half an hour.
Paintball isn't training people to kill, nor does it make poeple "get used to" shooting someone. Shooting someone is more representative of a tag. Besides paintball is the ONLY team sport where u can legally eliminate your opponent from play. It is only a game and best of all no one gets hurt.
PAINTBALL IS NOT BAD FOR KIDS
Providing the safety equipment fit them properly, I have nothing against people under the "legal age of consent" playing paintball. (With parental permission, that is.) In fact, paintball just may teach kids some important life skills. Winning doesn't matter, race, creed, age, religion doesn't matter, respect for authority, safety, and determined effort brings reward. Best of all, it teaches them to see a loss, not as failure, but as a learning experience.
    PAINTBALL IS NOT DANGEROUS
The safety equipment is designed to withstand multiple impacts from paintballs that are travelling far above the industry safe standard. (In other words they hold up over and about the "worst case scenario" like all safety equipment should.) Few people have been injured playing paintball. Accident statistics show that paintball has less injuries than bowling!
PAINTBALL DOES NOT PROMOTE VIOLENT TENDENCIES IN PEOPLE
In fact, psychologists have seen it to be a catharsis. It is a safe and healthy way to blow off some of the everyday tensions in life. Violent tendencies? Absolutely NOT. Tendencies towards a hot bath and a warm bed after a day of paintball comes to mind.
    OBEYING RULES AND LAWS
There are safety rules, field rules and game rules. In order to be permitted to play, you must abide by them. Cheaters are not well liked in this sport and they are quickly ostracized.

Paintball is an Extreme sport, safe participation in paintball requires observance of proper safety procedure. When safety rules are followed, paintball is extremely safe.
There are only 5 safety rules, but we certainly take them very seriously. The only other 'rule' is that you have fun. Before each game the Marshall holds a safety briefing where the rules will be explained to all players to ensure that they are understood. These safety rules and game formats as used at The Funderdome.

    Osama Bin Ladden's Death

WASHINGTON - Osama bin Laden, the face of global terrorism and architect of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, was killed in a firefight with elite American forces Monday, then quickly buried at sea in a stunning finale to a furtive decade on the run.

Long believed to be hiding in caves, bin Laden was tracked down in a costly, custom-built hideout not far from a Pakistani military academy.

"Justice has been done," President Barack Obama said in a dramatic announcement at the White House while a crowd cheered outside and hundreds more gathered at ground zero in Manhattan to celebrate the news.

The military operation took mere minutes.

U.S. helicopters ferrying elite counter-terrorism troops into the compound identified by the CIA as bin Laden's hideout -- and back out again in less than 40 minutes. Bin Laden was shot in the head, officials said, after he and his bodyguards resisted the assault.

Three adult males were also killed in the raid, including one of bin Laden's sons, whom officials did not name. One of bin Laden's sons, Hamza, is a senior member of al Qaeda. U.S. officials also said one woman was killed when she was used as a shield by a male combatant, and two other women were injured.

Mr. Obama chaired no fewer than five National Security Council meetings meeting on the pursuit of bin Laden, CBS News has learned, and gave the order to plan an attack on his suspected compound on the morning of April 29. He gave final order for the attack Sunday morning.

The poem I read for my mom on Mother's Day

    Super Mom

    Mom, you're a wonderful mother,
    So gentle, yet so strong.
The many ways you show you care
Always make me feel I belong.

    You're patient when I'm foolish;
    You give guidance when I ask;
    It seems you can do most anything;
You're the master of every task.

    You're a dependable source of comfort;
You're my cushion when I fall.
    You help in times of trouble;
You support me whenever I call.

    I love you more than you know;
    You have my total respect.
If I had my choice of mothers,
You'd be the one I'd select!

    Why exercise is important

    Why is Exercise Important?

Have you ever heard the expression "use it or lose it"? It's true! If you don't use your body, you will surely lose it. Your muscles will become flabby and weak. Your heart and lungs won't function efficiently. And your joints will be stiff and easily injured. Inactivity is as much of a health risk as smoking!
    Helps Prevent Diseases
Our bodies were meant to move -- they actually crave exercise. Regular exercise is necessary for physical fitness and good health. It reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases. It can improve your appearance and delay the aging process.

    Improves Stamina
When you exercise, your body uses energy to keep going. Aerobic exercise involves continuous and rhythmic physical motion, such as walking and bicycling. It improves your stamina by training your body to become more efficient and use less energy for the same amount of work. As your conditioning level improves, your heart rate and breathing rate return to resting levels much sooner from strenuous activity.

    Strengthens and Tones
Exercising with weights and other forms of resistance training develops your muscles, bones and ligaments for increased strength and endurance. Your posture can be improved, and your muscles become more firm and toned. You not only feel better, but you look better, too!

    Enhances Flexibility
Stretching exercises are also important for good posture. They keep your body limber so that you can bend, reach and twist. Improving your flexibility through exercise reduces the chance of injury and improves balance and coordination. If you have stiff, tense areas, such as the upper back or neck, performing specific stretches can help "loosen" those muscles, helping you feel more relaxed.

    Controls Weight
Exercise is also a key to weight control because it burns calories. If you burn off more calories than you take in, you lose weight. It's as simple as that.

    Improves Quality of Life
Once you begin to exercise regularly, you will discover many more reasons why exercise is so important to improving the quality of your life. Exercise reduces stress, lifts moods, and helps you sleep better. It can keep you looking and feeling younger throughout your entire life.

    How Often Should I Exercise?

The benefits of any exercise program will diminish if it's disrupted too frequently. A "stop-start" routine is not only ineffective, but can cause injuries. Being consistent with exercise, therefore, is probably the most important factor in achieving desired results.
People often assume that more is better. Wrong! Doing too much too soon or performing intense exercises on a daily basis will have deleterious effects, such as muscle/tendon strains, loss of lean tissue, and fitness-level plateaus.
If you are a beginner, start off slower than you think you should. Three days per week is realistic, safe and effective. If you are experienced, do cardiovascular (aerobic) exercises such as walking, jogging and bicycling for no more than 200 minutes per week with no more than 60 minutes per session.
Weight training should be done no more than three times per week targeting the same muscle groups. Exercise the same muscle groups on non-consecutive days because muscles need adequate time to recover and cannot be effectively trained if they are tired or sore.
Many people forget to stretch or make the excuse that they don't have the time. Flexibility is important, so make the time! Stretching can be done every day, but stick to a minimum of three times per week in order to reap the benefits. When the body is warmed up, such as after a workout session, perform five to 10 stretches that target the major muscle groups. Hold each stretch for 10-30 seconds.

    East Indians in Belize

The earliest evidence of the influx of East Indian in Belize was in 1858, when the British Parliament arranged for the transport of some one thousand mutineers with their wives and families after the suppression of the Indian mutiny. The East Indian that came again in the 1880s were from Jamaica, brought mainly to work on the sugar estates of ex-confederates who settled in the Toledo district after fleeing the Civil War in the U.S.A.

About the same time, some East Indian who had previously been employed in Guatemala planting coffee also settled in Toledo. By the turn of the 20th century, East Indian had also settled in Calcutta and San Antonio in the Corozal district in northern Belize cultivating a variety of fruits and vegetables for sale.

As laborers, it was proven over and over again in the Caribbean and Belize that for light field work the East Indian was an invaluable worker. Today, they live mostly in communities in the Toledo district in places like Forest Home and Mafredi. In the Corozal district they occupy the villages of San Antonio, Carolina and Calcutta; while in Belize City they are more diversified.

Within the past two decades there have been recent Hindu immigrants to Belize, engaged mostly in merchandizing. Many of the young East Indian working in their stores were brought as indentured workers.

Presently comprising about three percent of the population, the East Indians have almost completely intermixed in terms of marriage and culture.

Food-Most East Indians eat traditional foods.  Their festival food is cohune cabbage and dahl roti (flour tortillas). East Indians flavor their foods with tacari or curry powder. In order to obtain tacari powder, the yellow ginger root is planted and harvested in the months of April and May. It is then boiled and sun dried and grated with a large rubbing stone known as ‘hardi’. Seasonings such as cilantro, thyme, sage and black pepper are added and mixed to become powdery.

Clothing- Traditionally, the women wear long skirts, long sleeve blouses and a large head scarf is thrown across their shoulders. Under their clothing they wear a ‘chemise’, which consists of a long slip and a pair of long breeches. East Indian women are always well covered up in case of a sudden change of weather should occur. They also wear a sari, which is a single piece of cloth about six or seven yard long, which is wrapped around the waist and thrown around the shoulder. The East Indian men tend to dress in Western clothing, but a hat is usually worn to protect them from the sun. Most East Indian women in Belize wear Western-style clothes.

Beliefs- In the East Indian beliefs it is believed that babies should not be left alone because a witch known as Old Heg will suck their blood, and that opening the Bible to Psalm 23 will protect them from harm and that to prevent poverty no sweeping is to be done in the night.

    How Bullying Affects Children

    How Bullying Affects Children
Bullying affects everyone involved. If you suspect that your child is being bullied, you may already have seen the effects of bullying reflected in his or her behavior. But bullying also affects the students who bully, bystanders, parents, schools, and the community.
Students Who are Bullied- Students deserve to feel safe at school. But if they experience bullying, they may feel insecure, grow to dislike school, and have difficulty learning. The effects of being bullied typically do not end in childhood. As they grow older, students who were bullied can experience:
    • depression
    • low self-esteem
    • health problems
    • poor grades
    • suicidal thoughts
Observers of Bullying - Students who observe bullying, often called bystanders, may feel they are in an unsafe environment. Effects of bullying on bystanders may include feeling:
    • fearful
    • powerless to act
    • guilty for not acting
    • drawn to participate
Students Who Bully Others - Students who bully other individuals also have problems but typically of a very different nature. Many bullying students engage in other antisocial behaviors such as breaking rules, shoplifting, vandalizing property, carrying a weapon, drinking alcohol, and smoking at relatively young ages.
There are also clear indications that students who bully, in particular boys, are at a greater risk of continuing on an antisocial path involving crime and substance abuse in young adulthood.
