Who are the East Indians: Clothing/look

East Indian people is a demonym that may refer to the following related groups:

• people from South Asia, South Asian ethnic groups
• or more specifically, people from India, Indian people

This usage is particularly popular in countries in the western hemisphere to differentiate people of South Asian origin from Native Americans (also referred to as Indians) or people from the Caribbean (known as West Indians).

Older uses

• also sometimes extended to include people from the Malay Archipelago.

The Malay Archipelago was also referred to as East Indies, sometimes by itself and sometimes in combination with South Asia during the colonial era. This usage is not popular now.

• people of mixed European and Asian(esp. Indian) parentage

This usage is specific to the Anglo-Indian community.
